Irish Whiskey Reviews

Bushmills 10 year old distilled in Co. Antrim

Bushmills 10 year old single malt Irish whiskey was first made in 1984 to an Irish and UK audience.  Nine years later, Bushmills opened this fine single malt to the US market where the original Bushmills  or White Bush has been a favorite for years.

This Whiskey is a light malt with single malts that are 10, 12 and occasionally 13 years old to balance this fine single malt.  They age this single malt whiskey in ex-bourbon casks, and just a bit in Sherry wood to give this nice single Irish whiskey a bit of fruit.

Nose: A nice fine maltiness with hints of the sherry wood.  Even as a single malt, there is a bit of Pot Still fragility to this Irish Whiskey, identifying it as a true Irish.

Taste: Sweet at the beginning with some fruit, giving way to the rich sweetness of the malt, this is supported by the sherry, and all the sweetness start to break and are taken over by a subtitle dryness.

Finish: The finish of this Irish Whiskey is long and lingering, but very welcome.  There is a toffee sweet malt and a nice spice.  The Bourbon casks add a chocolate and vanilla swirl, with a refined dry finish.
