Irish Whiskey Reviews

Clontarf Irish Blended Whiskey

"Airy and delicate yet deep, with sweet honey and earth aromas."

-Eric Asimov,
The New York Times

The conditions of the high plains of Ireland are ideal for producing the perfect grain for making Irish whiskey. The prevailing westerly wind, the soft showers, the shy bursts of sunshine and the fertile soil all combine to produce grain that is the envy of whiskey distillers across the world.

Clontarf Irish Whiskey is aged in charred bourbon barrels. It softens the taste and leaves the drinker with a smooth and mellow finish.  Clontarf Irish Whiskey uses no sherry when aging, this give a unique and very smooth maltiness.

A wonderful and relaxing session whiskey, Clontarf is a fine glass of whiskey with a drop of pure water, but also will hold up as a mixer in coffee, or cola or sour.

Nose: a hint of oak and a wisp of vanilla create an incredibly soft and creamy toffee like nose that intrigues the drinker to dive in to this Irish whiskey blend.

Taste: A lush and fully textured whiskey with a fat and almost toffee sweet flavor attracts you then it is joined with hints of maltiness, but none of the dried-grass overtones that many malt-based blends whiskeys and  single malt whiskeys can have. No sherry to speak of in this Irish Blended whiskey

Finish: Finally a lingering, subtle vanilla is brought forth with the late arrival of an intriguing and pleasant spice.
